The AIA Honorary Fellowship program honors international architects for their exceptional work and significant contributions to architecture and society on an international level. The Mecidiyeköy Liquor and Cognac Factory was built in the early 1930’s with the design of renowned French architect Robert Mallet-Stevens in an empty estate surrounded by mulberry trees. Displaying the periods modernist tendencies, the building that has become rooted in the city’s memory for many years with its horizontal, strong and dramatic mass had completely lost its essential qualities due to the restorative activity it was exposed to during various periods; additions that were carried out insensibly and interventions far from refinement. The exhibition titled “Mecidiyeköy Liquor Factory as the Early Republics Daring Move and more: Grumbling in the context of City Memory. Reading Council’s planning committee approved the 92-unit residential scheme in Reading, which is a historically important minster town with a long ecclesiastical history. Established in 1977, the Award is given every three years to projects that set new standards of excellence in architecture, planning practices, historic preservation and landscape architecture.
